Bethany round two

I worked with bethany again, she's hardcore. I redrew the second pose a few times trying to get it right and she powered through it with no complaints. She must've been standing there for an hour while I muddled around.

  1. How do design your values? Do you use 4 values? Starting with the mid-light and mid-dark, and then black? I like how you use mostly white with minimal grey and black.

  3. Ken: I generally start off really light with pencil and sorta build it up from there, waiting to put the darkest darks until I'm sure where I want them. A lot of times I'll put the darkest marks where the darkest shadows are or where I think it will look cool with the design of the picture. thanks for stopping by!

martin: thanks man! these drawing i've been posting are all pencil and sometimes prismacolor black colored pencil on bristol smooth paper 11x14in or 14x17in.

  4. Hey Whit, I'm glad I found your blog I was really missing your updates on CA sketchbook.
Anyway just some quick questions and comments.
It's great to see you're getting clothed models, I mean I never thought I'd say it but I'm really sick of drawing naked people because I wasn't learning how folds behave and things like that. So my question in relation to this is do these models sit for you privately? And are they girls you've just met or are they proper models? Because it seems the only way I'll be able to draw life models with their clothes on is if I get private models, because I haven't found any clothed life drawing sessions yet. I'm guessing these are done at the studio because of the costume variety?
You must say to yourself everyday, "Man, I got it good" :)

And I'm really looking forward to some more oil pieces. That black puma shoe is great!

  5. what's up cam? These drawings are mostly of hired models. I agree with that naked all the time can be boring. You should totally hire your own models. It's a much more interesting experience... I would never be able to go back to proper "art school" model sessions.

Every day I say to myself: "what happened to the past 3 years?" :)

thanks for dropping by man! goodnight
